Teaching Philosophy

Hello, my name is Juliane Reinheimer. I have been teaching for years in Ireland. Professionalism, commitment, diversity, and continuous professional development are priorities within my piano studio, enabling me to provide a high standard to my students. I follow a specific, highly professional piano framework and a carefully structured curriculum. I place the pupil at the center of the lesson. I guide them, but my pupils can pick and choose the style of music and the pieces they want to play. I am always aiming for a lesson full of fun, learning, and creating a passionate love for music, therefore transferring this enthusiasm to the pupil. I want to stress that the Studio is inclusive.

I believe that every person is unique, and each has their own preferred learning style. I take particular care to understand each student’s preferences, their strengths, and weaknesses, and tailor my teaching accordingly. Parent involvement and support are essential for me to achieve the best possible outcome. Therefore, I encourage parents to support their children, particularly in the first few years of their lessons, when practicing at home. The parents are invited to sit in on the lessons to gain insight and a clear understanding of what is involved when their child practices at home. Every pupil will receive guidance and clear instructions on how to follow up on the lesson at home. Short and long-term goals are kept track of. The practice at home is a vital part of a pupil’s progress.

My goal is to help my pupils become independent musicians. The key to better learning and developing confident and independent pianists is that I find it essential to enable my pupils to express and connect with their emotions musically, and generally to explore different styles of music. This begins by teaching the basics, such as music theory, notation, and rhythm, in a fun and simplified way. This is achieved through games and activities that take place away from the piano. I integrate scales and chords, aural exercises, and improvisation in lessons.

Additionally, I like to offer opportunities for my pupils to team up with other learners to learn duets. It is a fun way to explore sight reading and engage with other children within my piano studio who share the same interest. Twice a year, the opportunity to participate in public recitals is available and encouraged, as it benefits the student in becoming a confident performer. Both pupils and parents have greatly appreciated these events. Learning to play the piano is a lifelong journey. I believe music is for everyone, and a holistic approach to music includes everybody of any age and abilities.

As a final point, Exams are offered to pupils when they are ready, but are not the focus of my teaching. Exams can be taken with RIAM, Leinster School of Music, ABRSM, Trinity, and MTB. After the practice bit… Parents are welcome to observe lessons. I am part of a wider piano teacher network, which allows me the freedom to play injury-free and tension-free. Practice videos can be purchased. The Triangular relationship between student, parent, and teacher is highly valued. Reviewing practice together, I also incorporate different rhythm instruments.
